Happiness in the New Year

Hello Loves, and Happy New Year! Hope you all had a wonderful night.

As the end of 2016 drew near, I notice there was a LOT of post on social media about how 2016 was basically the most awful year ever and how everyone cannot wait until 2017. I’m not sure why, but it really irked me to see all those posts. It’s like people forgot all the things they had to be happy about over the past year. Then I realized that at the end of every year, people tend to feel betrayed by the year because it didn’t bring them what they were expecting/wanted, so then they put their hopes into a new year hoping that it would magically give them everything they’re hoping and wishing for. I stopped being irked and started feeling sad for these people because all the could focus on was the bad that happened this year.

This past year taught me a LOT about happiness and how to deal with my mild depression. I realized that no one else is ever going to make me happy, I can’t expect good things to just happen to me, and most importantly, in a world where you can find a million things to be sad and upset about, it’s incredibly important to have a positive outlook towards life. Finding the goodness around you. Whether it be the unconditional love of family/friends/pets, even scoring that beauty product that you’ve been dying to get your hands on, or someone’s random act of kindness (even if it wasn’t towards you).

There were so many things to be sad about in 2016. First, my favorite dog in the whole wide world passed, and then my husband and I both lost grandparents (both grandparents were the ones I was closest to. That was just a small portion of all the things that went wrong last year. On the flip side, I got two new nephews (and I am OVER THE MOON for them), I got to see family members I hadn’t seen in forever, both my brothers are FINALLY giving me sisters [in-law], and I’ve been given an opportunity to quit my job to focus on getting my health back. Oh! Also, I started this blog which has been an incredible source of joy and stress relief for me.

So to everyone who hated 2016, I truly hope that in 2017 you find your happiness. That you find the things that make you so happy that you forget the bad and focus on the good (or at least makes the bad not so bad). I know it can be tough (ESPECIALLY if you suffer from depression), but don’t let it get the best of you and bring you down.

Love you ALL and hope you have a wonderful 1st day of the year.
